FROM DISTANCE TO DESIRE: Welcome, Orientation, Brief preview of the flow

Info: In the first 30 minutes of this training, participants will be grounded in understanding one of the most common presenting sexual concerns in clinical practice: low desire. This segment explores desire as a multidimensional experience shaped by biological, psychological, relational, and contextual factors. Clinicians will learn to distinguish between a presenting concern and a diagnosable disorder, with a brief overview of DSM-5-TR criteria, including Male Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (MHSDD) and Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder (FSIAD), with attention to duration, distress, and rule-outs.

The focus will shift from pathologizing to curiosity, inviting clinicians to consider the conditions that support desire rather than what is “wrong.” Participants will be introduced to practical screening questions assessing distress, relational safety, and the impact of stress or trauma, along with language that normalizes clients’ experiences.
