ABOUT THE PROGRAM: "FREYLAKH: From Classical to Klezmer" presents a dynamic program featuring masterworks by Mozart, Ravel, Bartók, and Schoenfield, seamlessly blending classical sophistication with the vibrant energy of klezmer music. This extraordinary concert invites audiences to experience the diverse and vibrant tapestry of musical expression through the impeccable virtuosity of three award-winning musicians. With their boundary-defying musical exploration, these three musicians will transport you through a kaleidoscope of emotions and cultures.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS, ARNAUD SUSSMANN, violin: Winner of a 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Arnaud Sussmann has distinguished himself with his unique sound, bravura and profound musicianship. Minnesota’s Pioneer Press writes, “Sussmann has an old-school sound reminiscent of what you'll hear on vintage recordings by Jascha Heifetz or Fritz Kreisler, a rare combination of sweet and smooth that can hypnotize a listener. His clear tone [is] a thing of awe-inspiring beauty, his phrasing spellbinding.”
ABOUT THE ARTISTS, MORAN KATZ, clarinet: First Prize winner of the 2013 Ima Hogg Competition, Clarinetist Moran Katz also received the Audience Choice Prize as well as the Artistic Encouragement Prize voted on by the Houston Symphony musicians. In the year of 2009 alone, Ms. Katz won the First Prize at the Freiburg International Clarinet Competition in Germany, the Second Prize at the Beijing International Music Competition for Clarinet in China and the First Prize and Overall Prize at the Midland/Odessa "National Young Artist Competition" in Texas.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS: MARINA RADIUSHINA, piano Ukrainian-American pianist Marina Radiushina is described as a “virtuoso whose playing is distinguished by rare depth of interpretation and understanding of style” and a “pianist with enormous temperament and maturity.” Marina made her debut with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Valery Gergiev in 2012 appearing at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and Theatre Des Champs-Elysee in Paris. Recent highlights have included performances at the Salzburg and Rotterdam Festivals With Valery Gergiev, Carnegie Hall with Sir Simon Rattle, David Robertson and Pablo Heras-Casado, Mariinsky Theater with Tugan Sokhiev, appearances with Munich, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras and Brno Philharmonic, and chamber music performances with the members of Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in Israel, Carnegie Hall Ensemble at the Suntory Hall in Japan and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra chamber ensemble at the Arsht Center in Miami. Highlights of the current seasons include performances with violinist Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, cellists Zlatomir Fung, violinist Cho Liang Lin and Avery Fisher award-winning violinists Geneva Lewis and Kevin Zhu. Marina is a member of Carnegie Hall’s resident chamber group, Decoda, performing to sold-out houses in some of the most prestigious venues of New York City and abroad.
