About this Event

Free sessions for families affected by cancer. Open to anyone at any stage - wherther living with canncer, beyond it or caring for someone who is.

These sessions will be outdoors in an accessible woodland glade and will provide a wonderful opportunity to be creative together, learn a few new ways to spend time outdoors and learn a bit about nature.

There will be a range of nature-based activities to join in with depending on how you feel - or you can just sit by a tree and enjoy a warm drink.

Along with nature-inspired crafts there'll be a seasonal snack, warm drinks, a scavenger hunt or plant walk to explore the surrounding area which included a forest garden.

The sessions will take place in a little woodland glade within Parkwood Springs Country Park where accessable paths and welfare facilities are in place. Parkwood Springs is an amazing green space with incredible views over the city. it has heathland, woodland, open green spaces and is full of wildlife.

You will find the glade set out with various activities, hammocks, a central area and a quiet space with nature-inspired books. On arrival, you will be shown the various crafts and activites and you can choose how you would like to engage with the session. Whether getting stuck in with the crafts, or going for an explore or just sitting in the hammocks listening to the surrounding sounds. At an appropriate point there will be opportunity to be led on a guided walk looking closer at the surrounding plants and wildlife.

"The perfect balance of activities without it being overly structured" previous attendee

In the case of rain, the area will be covered with shelters and in the case of continuous heavy rain, extrememly windy conditions or thunderstorms the event will be rescheduled.

The family nature sessions are facilitatied by experienced outdoor practitioners Rose and Charlie, funded by Weston Park Cancer Charity and supported by Sheffield City Council Parks & Countryside Service.
