The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Festival 2024: Experience Harlem's past, present and future of Dance! The Best of Harlem: Join us for exciting Dance, Jazz, Films, Panel, Music and Culture with the famed community FREE from September 20th - 22nd at various locations. FRIDAY Sept. 20th: Experience Jazzmobile celebrating its 60th anniversary....and as well celebrating Coltrane Jazz at the 2nd annual John Coltrane Jazz Festival. This will be in Marcus Garvey Park at the Richard Rogers Ampitheater, an unforgettable event outdoors with a hearty Harlem crowd. Generally if bad weather is in forecast an alternate indoor venue is announced BEST ENTRY: 124th Street and 5th Ave (7pm - 830pm)
Later go by Local 398 American :Legion Post for an evening experience of eats, music and more.A hidden Harlem Gem and wonderful venue: Juke Jopint styled an is cozy, neighborly and welcoming to all. Besides great music and good food they offer the most resonably priced drinks anywhere in NYC! They are located at 48 W 132nd St New York, NY, street level entry. (5pm - 11:30pm)
SATURDAY Sept. 21st: Marcus Garvey Park
PART 1 - MOTHERSHIP 6 3pm - 7pm
THE Harlem Dance Experience - The Mothership 6 - with Harlem Dance Club gets ALL moving!
About 4pm it will feature a famed NYC dance contest re-enactment of the Harvest Moon Ball with Lindy Hop.

PART 2 - At Harlem School of the Arts 645 Saint Nicholas Ave, New York, NY 10030
6PM - A Harlem film premiere of "Where we Danced: History of Social Danced". It chronicles the evolution of American social dance. It tells the story of America’s -and Black Amderica's - dance through the lives of those who lived it in the past and currently. With wonderful rare dance footage and colorful memories.
7PM - A panel discussion follows with Harlem Dance Legends Sonny Allen and Barbara Billups (Savoy Ballroom/ Sonny Allen and the Rockets) with David Butts and Debra Youngblood (Savoy Manor / the Mama Lu Parks Jazz Dancers). Let them tell you where THEY danced and why we need to take seriously our famous dance culture of the Lindy Hop...
8PM - 10PM Afterwards - what else? We'll have a Harlem HOT Roots and Rhythm Dance Party!

4PM - A Soulful Savoy Sunday starts with the premier film showing of "Fat Boy: The Billy Stewart Story" where afterwards you'll meet the emmy award winning filmmaker Beverly Lindsay - Johnson. With a brief Q & A session
5:30 PM -There'll be live Jazz with Gene Ghee and the Savoy 3 for your dancing swinging and listening pleasure.
6:30PM - Next we Honor Harlemite Luther P. Gales for his cultural preservation efforts in the community.
7PM Afterwards we Dance it Up HOT Harlem style with DJ Tall Guy to classics of the 20th and 21st centuries!
