Students consistently claim that dynamic, engaged and interactive seminar interactions are some of their best times at university, and research shows that interactive seminars improve student learning and foster valuable employment skills.
So why is it sometimes so difficult?
If you have ever feared, or encountered, blank faces and silent classrooms, come and join a free interactive workshop, led by teacher educator Richard Chinn from Kings College London, and explore hands-on strategies for encouraging student interaction and debate.
You will be able to choose from two two-hour sessions:
Wednesday 25th Feb 10:30-12:30
Wednesday 25th Feb 15:30-17:30
Both workshops take place in Ellen Wilkinson_B2.4
You will leave with a range of strategies to engage students in interactive seminars.
This workshop is suitable for any Graduate Teaching Assistant teaching in the School of Social Sciences. It will be pitched towards reading-based seminars, but all are welcome.

Workshop leader: Richard Chinn
Richard Chinn is an internationally respected expert in teaching pedagogy with over twenty-years’ experience in the field. He is currently based at Kings College London in the School of Social Science and Public Policy. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with a particular interest in teacher cognition, classroom interaction and materials development. His research focuses on teacher responsiveness to emergent learning opportunities in classroom interaction.
