About this Event
Becoming familiar with the plants that grow on your doorstep is an opportunity to develop a deeper relationship with the place we call home. Often, we escape to the countryside to connect with nature. It is possible to receive this feeling even in the city if we slow down and open our perception. This foraging walk will be a mixture of information sharing and encouraging you to use your senses so you can start to open your perception to the plant world. We will meet an abundance of wild food and wild medicine, and explore how we can include them in our everyday lives. We will discuss food, recipes, and herbal medicine beyond the physical properties of the plant, preservation techniques, and how to engage with the plant world beyond the ‘useful’.
Foraging is best learnt through experience, much like food growing, cooking, preserving techniques, and natural crafts. Foraging has traditionally been an oral tradition, passing from one person or group to the next through shared and lived experience.
We will cover:
● Foraging principles: good practice for people and earth
● Plant Identification: how to recognise plant families and poisonous plants
● Recipes for everyday cooking, preserving techniques
● Kitchen Medicine and Herbal Remedies
● Tasting wild food along the walk and using our senses to experience the plant
● Developing our intuition and how to marry the intuitive and the practical
● We will explore what it is when we say a ‘medicinal’ plant, exploring the relationship between food, medicine, and plants beyond their physical properties
About your guide: CHARLOTTE GORDON
@charlotte_plantlore
Foraging guide and Intuitive Herbalist.
There is a curious question when it comes to foraging - we are often asked, ‘what is this plant good for?’ So Charlotte’s walks go beyond this question, to consider the relationship between food and medicine and what happens when we begin to have an intimate relationship with the life cycles of the plants around us. Charlotte teaches foraging, medicine making, and offers mentoring and 1:1 sessions in Intuitive Herbalism online, in London, and in Stroud.

What to Bring and Wear:
Please come prepared for a day outdoors by wearing suitable clothing for this cold season. Sturdy, waterproof footwear is essential, as we may be walking on uneven or muddy ground. Dress in layers to stay comfortable, and bring a waterproof jacket in case of rain. Please note that this is not a hike, so it’s really important to wear clothes that will keep you warm, as the walk is slow and there will be moments of stillness so that we can gather round as Charlotte introduces each plant to us.
A small bag or reusable container is handy for collecting any finds, and a notebook or phone if you’d like to take notes or photos. A bottle of water and a light snack are also recommended to keep your energy up during the walk.
Important Notes:
By signing up to this event, you are agreeing to our 7-day cancellation policy.
Please let us know in advance if you have any allergies or health concerns.
Extras / What’s Around:
There is a community sauna within the park that you may wish to use after our foraging walk! This is not included in the ticket, and you will need to book with them separately.
There is a small cafe inside the park that is open from 10am-5pm, if you’d like to grab a hot drink before our walk.
Brixton is a short bus ride away with a variety of cafes & restaurants for meal options before/after the walk.
