About this Event
Apsara Studio is delighted to present (February 20th – March 7th 2026), a solo–collective exhibition by Argentinian artist Alejandra Mizrahi, curated by PhD scholar and curator Gema Darbo. Alongside the exhibition, a workshop in collaboration with the Goldsmiths Textile Collection Library and the Constance Howard Gallery will take place on 6 March 2026.
Number Participants: 15 max
Materials: Basic sewing kit with scissors, needles, and threads
Alejandra Mizrahi is an artist and researcher. Born and based in Tucumán, Argentina, Mizrahi has worked alongside the community of Randeras de El Cercado for over fifteen years. She is currently undertaking a residency at the Delfina Foundation in London.
Rooted in different modes of craft knowledge transmission—oral tradition, manuals, and dechados—this one’day workshop invites participants interested in textile practices to learn the logic of the Randa, a reticular needle lace made through knots and shaped by historical processes of migration. Through the engagement of hands and bodies—knotting, observing, and repeating—the workshop addresses both the textile technique and the colonial histories through which randa became established as a local cultural form within the community.
The workshop will include a close reading of a manual published collaboratively by Mizrahi and Claudia Aybar (EDUNT-IDEP), focusing on the choreographic forms of weaving that emerge from collective experience. It will also draw on specialized lace-related bibliography available in the Goldsmiths Textile Collection Library & The Constance Howard Gallery.
Finally, the workshop foregrounds the material and relational dimensions of textile knowledge through direct work with physical samples and processes, questioning what makes a collective textile practice political at the intersection of history and knowledge transmission.
