About this Event
What the Follow-Up Event Will Focus On
1. Gatsby Benchmarks & Work Experience
The session will include a practical discussion on how work experience in Stockport aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks, with a particular focus on:
- How employers and schools understand and apply the benchmarks
- Where work experience already supports Gatsby requirements
- Gaps, challenges and opportunities for improvement
- Using shared language so schools and employers are aligned
This will help ensure work experience is meaningful, compliant and impactful, not just a tick-box exercise.
2. Creating a Stockport-Wide Work Experience Guide & Workbook
Partners will explore the opportunity to co-create:
- A Stockport Work Experience Guide for employers and VCFSE organisations
- A Work Experience Workbook for young people
These resources would support:
- Consistent quality across placements
- Inclusive practice and accessibility
- Clear expectations for young people and employers
- Practical tools that can be used borough-wide
3. Addressing Barriers Together
The event will revisit the key barriers raised previously and focus on:
- What can realistically be addressed at a Stockport-wide level
- Where shared solutions could reduce pressure on individual organisations
- How to better support disadvantaged and neurodivergent young people
- Sustainability and capacity across schools, businesses and VCFSEs
Outcomes of the Follow-Up Event
By the end of the session, partners will have:
- A shared direction for improving work experience across Stockport
- Agreed next steps for developing the guide and workbook
- Clear areas for collaboration between schools, employers and VCFSEs
- A stronger collective understanding of Gatsby Benchmarks in practice
