Create your own Mothers Day bouquet* while learning about basic botany and medicinal plants from herbalist and educator Tessa Kappe. Discuss flower parts and types while exploring what’s blooming on the farm through plant identification, common/botanical names and plant families. Celebrate the beauty of our seasonal, local flora and cultivate your creativity through floral design and harvesting tips. Hand pick your own beautiful, farm fresh bouquet and enjoy a culminating show and tell to appreciate everyone’s inspired arrangements and botanical know-how!

Tessa Kappe (she/her) is a clinical herbalist, educator and gardener based on unceded Ohlone land in San Francisco, CA. She spent a decade working towards social and ecological healing running school garden, nutrition and food justice programs for city youth. Currently Tessa teaches botany to herbalists and offers sliding scale herbal health consultations to adults, teens and kids. She holds a B.A. in Politics from UC Santa Cruz with a focus in Feminist Studies, certificates in clinical herbalism from Scarlet Sage School of Traditional Healing Arts and permaculture design from Urban Permaculture Institute, and is a certified UC California Naturalist. Her floral finesse includes designing flowers for friends’ weddings and countless clusters of whimsical weeds and backyard bouquets. Find her on both sides of your local farmers market, strolling the Excelsior hills and leading classes and herb walks around the city.


SUGGESTED DONATION: $40 per person which includes materials fee. Participants will make and take home their own flower arrangements and accompanying materials.

What do I do if I cannot afford the suggested donation?

We encourage everyone to make an offering commensurate with your means, and in an amount that feels powerful to you - such gifts make workshops like these possible. We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Therefore our workshop is offered freely: please select the "Equity Admission" option if it applies to you. If you can afford to make a bigger donation, your contribution will support this opportunity for those with more limited available funds.

Can I get there with public transportation?

Yes, please see the Get Involved page on our website. Note if you are taking BART, please use the walking directions provided here (google can lead you astray).

Is there parking?

Yes there is limited parking on the farm (on the gravel drive inside the fence). There is also street parking on Alemany Blvd and Ellsworth streets.
