Photography exhibition focuses on beauty of Milngavie Reservoir and Loch Katrine...
A new exhibition celebrating the natural beauty and heritage of two iconic Scottish Water sites has opened for the public to enjoy.
‘Flow and Destination’ has been organised by Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club in partnership with Mugdock Country Park and Friends of Milngavie Reservoir.
The exhibition features photographs celebrating Victorian engineering connecting Loch Katrine to Milngavie.
Members of the camera club captured a wide range of images showcasing the landscapes, wildlife and changing seasons at the two locations. After reviewing the submissions, a judging panel selected what they felt were the 30 best photographs, which are now on display for visitors to view as part of the exhibition.
'Flow and Destination' can be enjoyed at the Campsie Gallery in Mugdock Country Park until Sunday 19 April. Open daily from 10am to 4pm. Free entry.
Scottish Water welcomed the exhibition as an opportunity to highlight the importance and beauty of these historic sites.
Milngavie Reservoirs – which includes Craigmaddie and Mugdock reservoirs – stores drinking water for around 700,000 customers across Greater Glasgow. The site attracts around 160,000 visitors each year and is valued as both a vital water source and a popular local beauty spot where people enjoy walking, wildlife watching and the surrounding scenery.
Water supplied to the reservoirs comes from Loch Katrine in the Trossachs, which has been providing drinking water to Glasgow since 1859. The loch remains a key part of the region’s water supply network and is renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich heritage.
Michael O’Donnell who is a member of both Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club and Friends of Milngavie Reservoir said: “This exhibition has been a wonderful opportunity for our members to explore these scenic locations and capture images that showcase the landscapes and atmosphere of Milngavie Reservoirs and Loch Katrine.
“I was part of the judging panel and it was an extremely difficult task to narrow down more than 130 photographs submitted by our members to just 30, which are now displayed in the exhibition.
“We’d like to thank Mugdock Country Park for providing the gallery space to showcase our work. We’re delighted to now share the exhibition with the public and celebrate the beauty of these special places.”
Councillor Jim Gibbons, Chair of Mugdock Country Park Joint Management Committee, said: “The Campsie Gallery has been very popular since it opened and I’m sure visitors will enjoy the latest exhibition, which focuses on two beautiful and historic sites. Well done to everyone involved – particularly the talented members of Milngavie and Bearsden Camera Club.”
Donna Mills, Scottish Water Land Strategy Team Manager, added: “Milngavie Reservoirs and Loch Katrine are not only vital parts of the water supply for hundreds of thousands of people, they are also incredibly special places for visitors and local communities.
“It’s fantastic to see the beauty of these locations captured through photography and shared with the public. Exhibitions like this help people appreciate both the landscapes and the important role these sites play in supplying drinking water.
“We always welcome opportunities to engage with the local community around our reservoirs. With Milngavie being one of our most popular sites, we will continue working with local stakeholder groups and businesses to support further events in 2026. This helps promote the site while also giving us valuable feedback from those who visit.”
