About this Event

Paddle up to grassy island with an on-water BBQ lunch, drinks, music, and friends on boats, floats, and paddle craft. The water is knee to waist deep for 300 yards with a nice, sandy bottom, perfect for cooling off and playing frisbee. But the best part is experiencing awesome sea planes buzzing over and and splashing in!

We'll meet at Wave of Wellness, where your experienced guide will assign you to quality, fitted paddleboard gear and review safety and paddling technique. Then we'll launch the boards on to beautiful Lake Mary Jane - half bordered by a nature preserve with tall pine and cypress forest, this lake has a very natural, old Florida vibe - you won't believe you're in Orlando. We'll paddle leisurely to the center of the lake where the floating party is kicking off! Boats will be anchored with music, BBQ lunch, and friendly neighbors. The water is shallow enough to stand up and cool off, or we will anchor our boards and you may float and soak up the sun. Then relax and enjoy the live music while spectacular sea planes fly overhead. You can even view them up close when they splash in and anchor - it's an aviation-lovers dream! Around 1:30p when the pilots begin to leave, we'll paddle back to our launch site. Bathrooms available to change, etc.

Lunch: BBQ lunch is available for Cash Donation. Bring cash for purchase. Food and beverage is served by volunteers and is first come, first serve - we suggest eating upon arrival. If you have specific dietary or beverage needs, we encourage bringing that with you.

All paddle craft and ages welcome. Kids 12 years and younger may ride along free with an adult. All participants must know how to swim.

Paddle Duration: 1-2 miles

SUP Skill Level: All Levels, instruction included.

IMPORTANT: In the event the sea planes can't attend due to inclement weather, we will still host the paddle portion of this event to the island and have our own party - since we can't control the weather we are not offering refunds if the sea planes can't fly - thanks for understanding. If the weather is too inclement for us to paddle we will reschedule for the next Splash-In event in September. We only reschedule so your experience will be safe and enjoyable. You will be notified via Eventbrite email at least 1 hour prior to start time of a reschedule.

Time: IMPORTANT - PLEASE BE ON TIME SO THE GROUP DOES NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOU: Meet at 9a. Launch Time is 9:30a. If you need extra time to unload gear or inflate your board, you are welcome to arrive as early as 8a.

Bring: Water, towel, dry bag, cash (for food & beverage purchase), your own snacks and adult beverages if you prefer or want extra, and a dry change of clothes. If you're bringing your own paddle craft, a life vest and whistle are required by law.

Wear: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses (with straps), clothing that is easy to move in and can get wet (like dry wicking workout clothes or swimwear - NO WHITE APPAREL - the lake has cypress tannins which turn white into yellow).

Parking: This is a residential area. We'll fit as many vehicles as we can in the driveway. Overflow parking is on the street side - please respect our neighbors and don't block driveways or mailboxes. If you can carpool with a friend it will help greatly!

Bathroom: We have a single bathroom on site. If you are able to stop before you come back into the neighborhood it will reduce the wait for facilities.

Guide: Jessica Cichra is a SUP enthusiast that has been actively paddle touring, racing, surfing, and instructing since 2009. She is the founder of Wave of Wellness, a company with a mission to empower clients through adventurous activities that enhance all areas of well-being with a focus on travel, SUP, yoga, and community. Jessica guides paddle tours in the Central Florida and internationally on adventure travel retreats.
