Luke Slater, a prominent figure in the British techno scene, has recently released his latest album, "Skyscraping," which follows up on his 2021 work "Say it Loud." The ten-track LP features dynamic tracks like "Labstract," "One For The Groove," and "The Drag Train," all aimed at energizing dance floors. Slater blends studio creations with recordings from his acclaimed live shows, showcasing his dedication to the club experience and the communal joy of electronic music. Released via the Belgian label Token, the album marks a milestone, celebrating Token's 100th release with the powerful opener "Bang Wap," which received praise for its primal energy.
In discussing his creative process, Slater emphasizes the importance of delivering a bold, driving sound, inspired by the pioneering work of artists like Jeff Mills. He reflects on his own journey, noting that while the UK dance music scene had strong offerings, he sought a more intense and impactful sound. Living in West Sussex, Slater enjoys a level of anonymity, which allows him to remain grounded despite his success. He acknowledges the struggles of his formative years and the relentless drive that fuels his artistry today, highlighting that the hunger to innovate has only intensified over time.
As a key player in techno since the early '90s, Slater has developed a diverse portfolio, releasing music under various aliases and collaborating with notable labels. His performances, including the influential Planetary Assault Systems, are known for their intricate sound design and engaging live experiences.
Looking forward, Slater remains committed to pushing the boundaries of his music and live shows, eager to share his artistic vision with audiences worldwide. He expresses gratitude for the support he's received throughout his career and reflects on the significance of his musical roots in shaping his identity as an artist.
