We are in for a real treat as we welcome Alex Kadis to Fish Island for a Book Supper Club.
Alex Kadis is a former Smash Hits journalist who moved into music management working with Simon Cowell helping shape the careers of One Direction, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis and more. She toured for many years with Take That, where she witnessed the inner workings of a successful pop group and the people around them. Music has been central to Alex throughout her life, she says she’s ‘seen how it helps people, how it shapes people’ and for her protagonist, Connie Costa, music is a salve and a salvation.
Big Nobody is Alex’s hilarious and moving debut novel and we're very much looking forward to discussing it with her over dinner. Set in the Greek Cypriot community of 70s East London, Big Nobody, is a fill of family dysfunction and whip smart humour. The teenage heroine Connie Costa spends her time plotting the demise of her father who she has dubbed ‘the fat murderer’ (she blames him for the deaths of her mother and brothers in a car crash), scoffing CurlyWurlys, drinking whisky, smoking cigarettes and taking fashion and life advice from her imagined companions David Bowie and Mark Bolan.

Your ticket includes:
A hardback copy of the book Big Nobody released 5th March 2026 and a limited edition tote bag
A pizza of your choice from the Classic Pizza menu
A glass of house wine or beer (or soft drink)
A small tiramisu
Book available for collection from Fish Island Books (in Unlock) after release date 5th March or at the event. There will be time to ask the author to sign your copy!

Xochitl Gonzalez author of Olga Dies Dreaming
