📣📣📣 CALLING ALL FIRST YEARS AND FIRST TIME COMPETITORS 📣📣📣Never competed in a skills competition before? Confused about the difference between negotiation, mediation, client interviewing and witness examination? This is the weekend for you!
The Skills Sandbox is a two day, low-stakes learning experience designed to introduce first-year students and first-time competitors to UNSW’s Internal Skills competitions. Rather than a formal competition, the Sandbox focuses on practice and confidence-building across witness examination, mediation, client interviewing and negotiation in a supportive environment. Across the two days, students rotate through interactive workshops and simulated rounds giving first-year students the opportunity to try new skills, ask questions, and learn by doing, without the pressure of being scored or ranked before the practice rounds. The Skills Sandbox is also a great chance to meet other students and find potential partners for future competitions.
📅 Saturday 14 March and Sunday 15 March
⏰ 10:00am – 5:00pm
📍 Location: Law Building
🔗 SIGN UP HERE: https://forms.gle/LBK7RTxUbfV88xHf7
Skills Sandbox will run identically on both Saturday and Sunday - feel free to pick and choose which sessions you want to attend! The sessions will run as follows:
10:00am – 1:00pm - Client Interviewing OR Negotiations
2:00pm – 5:00pm - Witness Examination OR Mediation
For judges who have competed in two or more rounds of any competition, you can get AHEGS accreditation for volunteering to judge: https://forms.gle/ACVy4aV6AHELNKMp8
‼️‼️‼️NOTE FOR FIRST-TIME COMPETITORS: There are a quite a lot of LawSoc events being held in the first few weeks of this term, which may cause confusion on which ones may overlap with each other. For first time skills competitors, we suggest attending the Skills x Mooting Social Night and Skills Sandbox (and, if you are interested in mooting, the Introduction to Mooting Workshop). The Masterclasses are targeted towards more experienced competitors (although you are still welcome to attend!), and all other similar LawSoc events will not have any overlap with the Skills Sandbox.
Please feel free to email Ash and Damien at [email protected] if you have any queries at all - we’re always happy to chat!
