Please join us here at the Pueblo County Historical Society & Heritage Museum on April 3, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for another First Friday Art Show - Steampunk Curiosities by Dave Duros! This show will highlight the vast interest in Steampunk Style - primarily showcasing the intertwining of industrial era contraptions with an artistic touch. Dave Duros: Born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, and now relocated to Pueblo, where he designs and creates sci-fi/fantasy machine Steampunk Sculptures. With a penchant for Victorian Design aesthetics and Science Fiction, he became fascinated with Steampunk because it combined the two, and began creating sculptures in 2013. His first showing was in Pueblo at the Sangre de Cristo Art Center’s Steampunk Juried Exhibition in the summer of 2014, where he won the “People’s Choice” award, and his piece “Ghost Talk” was chosen as the 1st Place Winner by World-Renowned Author of “The Steampunk Bible”, Jeff VanderMeer
At the annual Recycler's Art Show in Canon City, Duros won Best of Show in 2014, 2nd Place in 2015, 15 place in 2016, and 1s Place in the "Restore" category in 2017 and 2018. His work has been on exhibit at the Fremont Center for the Arts in Canon City, the Rawlings Library in Pueblo, and at the PB&T Bank 2018 "Art at Christmas" event. Duros was one of the permanent gallery artists at the Royal Contemporary Gallery in Florence, CO for two years. He had solo shows at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo, Colorado in 2016 and 2019. In 2019 he was commissioned to create a Steampunk Donation Box for the Buell Children's Museum. The Arts Center has expressed interest in another solo show for 2027. He builds his sculptures from items found at thrift shops, yard sales, estate sales, and donations from friends.
Duro's work had gained the attention and praise of New York Artist & Designer Art Donovan. Donovan is the author of "The Art of Steampunk" and was the curator of the world's first Steampunk exhibit at the Oxford University Museum in England. Donovan says "Duros' work is wonderfully unique and is pure, authentic Steampunk: Great style, well-conceived, well-executed...and done with a subtle sense of humor... Stunning! A treat for the eyes and mind!"
Duros was a featured exhibitor at Donovan's international Steampunk show "ODD BEAUTY: The Techno-Eccentric World of Steampunk" in New York in September of 2017.
