About this Event
Join the Houston SRA for a one-hour introductory class on firearms safety and safe operation of pistols and AR-pattern rifles. This event will be followed by optional time at gun range at a different location
We will be covering:
- The first four rules of firearms safety
- How to clear a firearm so it is safe to handle for cleaning, disassembly, storage, etc.
- How to properly hold your firearm
- How to aim your firearm
- How to deal with the most basic kinds of malfunctions
This class serves as an entry-point for beginners so they can become familiar with safe firearms handling.
About the instructor:
The instructor, Tripp, began handling firearms over 25 years ago after passing a Texas Hunter Safety course, and their interest in firearms and shooting recreation has lead to a familiarity with a wide range of guns, from military surplus to modern sporting rifles. They have a certificate for completion of the Core Intro to Precision Rifle (16 hour) course and 3 years experience competing in 2-gun biathlons. They believe having safe, inclusive spaces to share knowledge on handling and storage of firearms is important for our communities, and they are excited to contribute to Houston SRA's creation of these spaces.
