In this class with Patricia Sweet, you will learn how to apply and remove paint to create luminous light effects. Working with a single color, we will explore both additive and subtractive techniques to reveal subtle shifts in value. This approach sharpens your ability to truly see light and shadow, allowing you to either complete a striking monochromatic painting or create a strong underpainting for your next masterpiece.Bring your own supplies. (We have some extras if you contact us prior to class).
Oil Paint: just 1 tube- Van Dyke Brown, Burnt or Raw Umber (or a very dark brown);
Palette - gray is best;
Canvas (panel or stretch) - size 12x16 or 16x20 - must have canvas not smooth gesso board.
1” soft flat brush
Mineral spirits in sealed container - metal or glass
Q-Tips and Paper towels (Viva Brand is the best; it is strong and no dyes)
Latex, nitrile or vinyl gloves
Additional items to consider: oil to wash paint off skin (I use coconut oil), something to transport wet painting (pizza box, painters tape and a piece of cardboard larger than canvas)
