Toronto, North Turtle Island. On Friday, February 13, 2026, Watah Studio Theatre, in collaboration with Black Theatre School, will host Find Your People, an intentional community event created for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour who are queer, trans, non-binary, and gender-expansive. The gathering takes place during Black Futures Month and invites participants into a space rooted in connection, care, and collective belonging.
Find Your People is curated by Kabrena Robinson (she/her), Projects Weaver with Black Theatre School and Watah Theatre. As a queer multidisciplinary artist, theatre-maker, and cultural worker, she has facilitated numerous community-centred workshops and gatherings that prioritise storytelling, embodiment, and collective care. Her work is grounded in creating spaces where Black and queer communities can connect beyond performance, productivity, or expectation.

In a time marked by global instability, social unrest, and increasing isolation, Find Your People responds to a growing need for spaces where marginalised communities can gather in care. Rather than centring individual achievement or romantic outcomes, the gathering focuses on community itself as a vital and sustaining practice.
The idea for this gathering emerged from reflecting on how many social gatherings are structured around speed, performance, and the pressure to find “the one” as a singular outcome. This gathering offers a different invitation. It slows the pace and opens space for connection and community to unfold without expectation, allowing participants to engage in ways that feel natural, self-directed, and grounded in care.
The evening will feature community-centred activities designed to support one-on-one and small-group connection, alongside opportunities for play, reflection, and rest. Interactive games, guided prompts, and open moments of togetherness will invite participants to connect in ways that feel authentic, nourishing, and consent-centred. Quiet participation and observation are equally welcomed.
Held during Black Futures Month, the gathering positions community-building as both a cultural practice and a future-facing act. It reflects Black Theatre School and Watah Theatre’s ongoing commitment to relational practice, cultural care, and collective imagination. It affirms that futures are built not only through vision, but through how communities gather, support one another, and remain connected.
Accessibility is a central part of this gathering. Find Your People is offered as a free gathering in recognition that access is essential to building community. Removing financial barriers allows more people to gather, participate, and connect, reinforcing the belief that community care must be collective and shared.

About Watah Studio Theatre
Watah Studio Theatre is a creative home within the Lisgar Arts Centre and the shared space of Watah Theatre and Black Theatre School. The studio serves as a play-space for creation, learning, and community gathering, rooted in Black theatrical legacies on North Turtle Island.
About the Curator
Kabrena Robinson(she/her) is a queer multidisciplinary artist, theatre-maker, and cultural worker, and currently serves as Project Weaver with Black Theatre School. Their work centres on community, storytelling, and embodied practices of care, with a focus on creating spaces where Black and queer people can gather, connect, and collectively imagine.
