First- and second-place winners of Tuesday Musical's 2024 Scholarship Competition will compete again in the Final Round/Winners Concert this Sunday, May 5, 2:30 p.m. at Guzzetta Recital Hall, 157 University Ave. on The University of Akron campus. The adjudicated concert and post-concert reception are free and open to the public. No tickets are needed. Parking is available in adjacent decks and lots.
The audience will vote on the winner of the John M. Ream Jr. DDS People's Choice Award of $500. Two additional performance scholarships — one for $1,000 and one for $2,000 — will also be awarded. This year’s judges are Adam Roberts, a composition faculty member at Kent State University, and Domenico Boyagian, music director and principal conductor at Cleveland Opera Theater.
Now in its 68th year, Tuesday Musical’s Annual Scholarship Competition provides support for music majors from throughout Ohio who are embarking on careers as music educators and performers. More than 120 applicants from 15 schools applied to compete this year for 28 scholarships ranging from $750 to $2,000 each and totaling $40,050. The first-round of the adjudicated competition was March 23 in Akron.
