About this Event
In 1970, Salvador Allende was elected president of Chile on the back of his platform, “La vía chilena al socialismo (the Chilean path to socialism)", becoming the first democratically elected socialist in Latin American history. The incident sent shockwaves through the world and threatened to upend the global economic power structure, leading to a military coup d’état on the 11th of September, 1973, followed by a brutal, 16-year long military regime.
At the next Films for Foodies, on a date nestled between the anniversary of that dark day and the Chilean Fiestas Patrias holidays, we invite you to a cultural showcase featuring a screening of Machuca, a powerful coming-of-age tale which highlights Chile’s stark social divisions and takes place against a backdrop of political unrest.
Before and after the film, join us at the Kino und Bar for a relaxed social gathering with the ReSee community, and delicious hand-made empanadas served by Boca a Boca.
Join us at the Kino & Bar in der Königstadt (Straßburger Str 55) from 6pm onwards. Boca a Boca Empanadas will be preparing hand made empanadas on site before the film! Our screening of Machuca will begin at 7:45pm.
Come for just the film, for dinner, or spend the entire evening with us - it's up to you!
Note: Tickets are for the film only - drinks and snacks must be purchased separately.
We hope to see you there <3
