Join Maghreb Ciné for a screening of Moroccan Arabic-language drama (with English subtitles), The Blue Caftan, directed by Maryam Touzani and written by Touzani with the collaboration of Nabil Ayouch.
Introducing the film will be British-Moroccan director and writer Sara Harrak. Sara's recent short, , is currently on Film4 and premiered at BFI Flare and is being developed into a full feature. Her earlier short, , aired live on Channel 4 and won Best British Short at the Iris Prize, and is now in development as a TV series.
The Blue Caftan is a tender Moroccan film about Halim and Mina, a couple running a traditional caftan shop where Halim finds his deep, unspoken love for his wife tested by the arrival of a young, handsome apprentice, Youssef, creating a subtle, poignant love triangle exploring hidden desires, enduring partnership and quiet sacrifice in the face of illness and tradition.
Morocco’s official submission to the 2023 Academy Awards, the film made history as the first Moroccan title to be shortlisted for Best International Feature.
Certificate: 12. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
