About this Event
A Tiny Forest is a dense, fast-growing, native woodland made up of 600 trees planted in a tennis court-sized plot. They are not only an attractive location for wildlife but are great for people to enjoy as well, and can provide a range of benefits in the fight against climate change. This film highlights the Miyawaki methodology that we use in our Tiny Forests and the journey this methodology across the globe.
Plan for the evening:
19:00 welcome refreshments
19:30 film screening
Followed by an after film Q&A with the Earthwatch Tiny Forest team
About the film (note by the director)
Old growth, native forests are disappearing, pulling the rug out from under local biodiversity, and releasing noxious carbon dioxide that compounds climate change. To restore those native forests, people around the world are embracing the Miyawaki Method to plant "mini-forests."
Narrated by Hannah Lewis, award-winning author of Mini-Forest Revolution, the film zigzags across land and sea to meet ten different organizations in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The film observes in real time the brainstorming, planning, planting, and establishment that goes into making a mini-forest. Each story contributes to a bigger picture, that of passionate individuals taking civic action to regreen their cities. One person sparks the imagination of another, and another, and a robust network of foresters emerges.
