Film Nights at the Fun Home is a reinvigoration of our previous film nights and aligned to our commitment to a vibrant community program which welcomes our communities into our funeral home. We'll curate films that feel at home in our funeral home.
The Straight Story, directed by David Lynch (1999), is a biographical road drama based on the true story of Alvin Straight's 1994 journey across Iowa and Wisconsin on a lawn mower. A journey that took six weeks at a top speed of 8km/h. Why was Alvin travelling 390km on a lawn mower with such dogged determination? All will be revealed. But let's just say it has something to do with mortality and love.
An outlier of David Lynch's usually dark and surrealist work, this film was actually promoted as a family friendly feature. The only Lynch film to ever receive a G rating!
A wholesome and steady delight that will leave your heart feeling warmed, and might stir some tears too. But rest assured it's still sufficiently Lynch flavoured with obscure shots, odd characters, and themes of mortality, ageing, family reconciliation, poverty, and dignity.
Come and get cosy with us. Kids are very welcome. We'll have an assortment of delicious teas. BYO snacks.
Feel free to bring a cushion or blanket if you'd like to be extra comfy.
This event is free. All are welcome.
