The first woman elected to her village council, Shahverdi is a motorcycle-riding midwife who wants to use her platform to empower young women and end child marriages, among other causes. But she faces resistance at every turn from her deeply conservative fellow villagers. Described by Phuong Lee (The Guardian) as “a thought-provoking portrait of an extraordinary spirit.”
