Filó Machado is a composer, singer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and a major name in Brazilian jazz. His early albums, starting with "Filó" from 1978, are reminiscent of the music of fellow musicians such as Milton Nascimento or Djavan. Over the course of a total of 13 albums released, Machado developed his guitar playing and his percussive, often dazzingly fast scat singing into a fascinating style all of his own.
In 2021, Machado celebrated his 60th anniversary on stage in Brazil at the age of 70. He can look back on performances in 25 countries and collaborations with artists such as Jon Hendricks, Gal Costa, João Donato, Kenny Barron, Joyce Moreno, Tetsuo Sakurai and Hermeto Pascoal as well as a Latin Jazz Grammy nomination. In March 2025, Filó Machado will be back in Berlin with two freshly released albums in his luggage: the instrumental album "A música negra de Filó Machado" and "Cisne Negro" (in English: "Black Swan") with songs written in collaboration with the composer and lyricist Aldir Blanc.
