Donald Trump is soon to be back in office, even more dangerous than before. His agenda of mass deportations, attacks on trans people, deregulating the fossil fuel industry, uncritically supporting Israel’s genocidal war machine, and more, has millions of people downright terrified. As we head toward Inauguration Day when Trump will re-assume power, many are asking: can anything be done to stop him from carrying out his agenda? If so, what?
The ruling class and the far-right is only as strong as we are weak; it’s possible to push back the right and force concessions from the billionaires by building powerful movements of working people, youth and the oppressed.
Socialist Alternative hopes to contribute to the building of these movements, which is why we are convening our second Action Conference on December 20th to discuss decisions we made at our November Action Conference and lay out our next steps for Trump’s Inauguration in January. You do not need to have attended the first action conference to attend this one!
What We Need Above All
Mass protests are the best way to show Trump has no mandate to move forward with his reactionary agenda. This needs to be linked with the threat to shut down business as usual for Trump and the billionaire class. We need to protest, occupy, organize, and strike.
We must unite working-class people with a program that unapologetically fights for our interests, and can win over people who voted for Trump but also supported abortion in places like Florida. On the basis of mass working-class resistance, Trump can be defeated once and for all. But to defeat Trumpism and the far right for good, we need to take on the capitalist system as a whole. Trump is a symptom, capitalism is the disease. We need revolutionary change to fight for a socialist society, organized democratically based on the needs of working people and the planet, not the billionaires.
