About this Event
Femme Salée invites you to join us in celebrating the launch of our ninth zine issue, "Peanut Gall’ry," edited by Jazz Holmes, on Thursday, November 13, at The Shop at MATTER. Our release party will feature poetry readings, jazz-adjacent musical performances, comforting Southern food, & the opportunity to purchase a copy of the zine from 6:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come celebrate & meet other artists, authors, & creatives in the Denver community.
This event is made possible by generous support from the RiNo Art District Creative Grants Program and Denver Theater District.
ABOUT THE ZINE
Peanut Gall’ry centers on reclaiming the slur “peanut gallery,” used as a reference to the rowdy, cheap seats in a theater usually inhabited by poor & Black folks eating peanuts. The issue features eight creatives from across the United States who celebrate the loud, vibrant, beautiful, soft, & powerful characteristics of Black women. The release of this zine marks a continuation of our mission to share exciting, boundary-pushing work by creatives from diverse backgrounds, especially at this critical moment when federal-level pressures are attempting to silence & quash initiatives aimed at inclusion, representation, & accessibility.
This zine issue features paintings, sculpture, fashion, and poetry by Jazz Holmes, VantaBlack, Rochelle Johnson, Suzi Q. Smith, Victoria Dugger, Desi Brown, Ashley Cornelius, & Jewel Ham.
