Featured Artists Janet Hulland and Barbara Cushen will be exhibiting and demonstrating their art in the Hope Gallery 5-11 January.Janet talks about her artwork:
“My name is Janet Hulland, born in Newark and brought up in Balderton, Nottinghamshire. After living in various parts of the UK, my husband and I moved to New Zealand in 2002. Up until then I'd painted watercolours and dabbled with life drawing however New Zealand has pushed me to expand my art to include a variety of media, styles, and subjects who are larger than life bringing humour to the canvas.”
Barbara talks about her artwork:
“My name is Barbara Cushen. I am an acrylic artist based on the southern coast of Dunedin, New Zealand. Drawn to the city’s distinctive character, I specialize in capturing Dunedin’s architecture – particularly the homes and heritage buildings of the late 1800s to early 1900s.
My work is also shaped by a lifelong connection to the sea. Coastal scenes frequently appear in my paintings, inspired by childhood holidays on Stewart Island and years living within coastal communities. I have also lived inland, surrounded by the scenery of Central Otago. Another inspiration for my art.
As a featured artist, I will work primarily in acrylics on canvas or wood, but I continue to expand my creative practice. I am currently exploring pastels, graphite and pencil, adding new textures and techniques to my artistic journey.”
