On this feast day, we recall that the Christian pilgrimage is not merely an individual enterprise but an entry into a great cosmic struggle - one which, through Christ, we are destined to win! We remember St. Paul's charge to the Ephesians, that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the principalities of the air - but we are aided and supplied by God through his angelic host. In a world in which conflict, fear, and violence are increasingly thrown at us from all sides, this feast is our celebration of and thanksgiving for God's servants who (often invisibly) protect and aid us in our pilgrimage.
