Te Pare School of Architecture and Planning, University of Auckland, presents "Fast Forward". This annual event aims to foster debate, discussion and development within architecture, urban design and urban planning.
The 2024 series comprises three captivating lectures, each highlighting a distinguished architect as the speaker. These renowned architects will delve into their unique design philosophies, methodologies, and groundbreaking projects through engaging slideshows, offering valuable insights and hoping to spark critical discourse within the architectural community.
Join us as we embark on a journey of exploration and discovery, pushing the boundaries of architectural discourse and envisioning the future of our built environment.
About the Speaker:
Jade Kake Ngāpuhi (Ngāti Hau me Te Parawhau), Te Whakatōhea, Te Arawa is the director of Matakohe Architecture + Urbanism based in Te Tai Tokerau, Whangarei. She founded the firm in 2018 and the design practice is focused on working with Māori organisations on their marae, papakāinga and civic projects, and in working with mana whenua groups to express their cultural values and narratives through the design of their physical environments.
An architectural designer, writer and housing advocate, Jade gained a Bachelor of Architectural Design from the University of Queensland in 2009 and a Master of Architecture (Professional) from Unitec Institute of Technology in 2015.
Jade lives and works within her home area of Whangārei, where she is currently leading several projects to support the re-establishment and development of papakāinga within the district and leading the cultural narrative integration component on a number of public space, civic, commercial and education projects within the city.
In establishing Matakohe, her aspiration is for the kaupapa to grow to a mid-size kaupapa Māori multidisciplinary design practice, and to build and attract a team of skilled hapū kaimahi who can contribute their technical and cultural skills and service of their own whānau, hapū and iwi.
A returning speaker to our Fast Forward series, Jade was a part of the Mana Moana lecture panel from the 2023 edition of Fast Forward and we are very pleased to have her back to headline her own lecture.
