About this Event
Making a book used to be a very hands-on affair, that is before the advent of computers. Imagine having to arrange every single letter for every word on every page to print a copy, and that’s before you even have any pictures involved!
Before modern printing was commercialised, artists would carve drawings on to wooden blocks, which could then be hand-pressed onto parchment – you better hope you’ve made your drawing the right size, there’s no dragging and resizing here!
Hand in hand with our exhibition 'Still Life' we present this 90-minute workshop where we’ll be designing and creating our own modern wood blocks – though rather than carving into wood or etching into a metal plate, we’ll be using craft foam and scissors!
Take inspiration from the natural world (or perhaps some of the botanical prints in our library!), and create your own beautiful stamps and artwork to take home with you.
PLEASE NOTE: Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.
This workshop is suitable for children aged 6+, though adult assistance may be required!
