In Person at L'Alliance New York

Starting this fall, L'Alliance New York will become a family affair; offering family-inspired activities on Saturdays! This new yearly program seeks to amplify the educational opportunities available to young language learners along with their parents. Activities will be available for a range of ages and interests. Offering a child-friendly perspective of L’Alliance New York’s visual and performing arts programs, Saturday events are carefully selected to complement L'Alliance’s cultural and educational missions.

Featured Artists and Programs:

Studio in a School (all ages) – Studio in a School is a visual arts organization partnering with public schools and community organizations in NYC. Their team connects teaching artists with schools to organize classes in drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpting, media tech, and more. Studio in a School also partners with cultural organizations to connect schools and arts educators with current exhibitions, curators, museums, among others.

Dance workshop with Catherine Gallant (all ages) – In conjunction with the opening of Crossing The Line, L’Alliance New York’s performing arts festival, L’Alliance offers a family workshop inspired by dancer/choreographer Jérôme Bel’s work. Participants of all ages are invited to discover contemporary dance, celebrating the artist’s oeuvre before a performance of Jérôme Bel (2021) in Florence Gould Theater.

The workshop will be led by choreographer and dance educator Catherine Gallant, who will make a special guest appearance in Jérôme Bel (2021) on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.

Broken Box Mime Theater (ages 3-12) – BKBX (Broken Box Mime Theater) is a contemporary physical theater company that tells original stories beyond language barrier. L’Alliance New York has welcomed the troupe for performances and workshops in past seasons of TILT Kids festival and the Young Audience Program.

Le Petit B (ages 2+) – Created especially for very young children, Le Petit B engages its audience through interactive play, choice, and spatial exploration. Created by award-winning choreographer Marion Muzac and visual artist Émilie Faïf, this charming immersive experience offers an inventive landscape peopled by two dancers and warm, inviting cushions that evoke the comfort of a mother’s breasts.

Coloring Hour (ages 3+) – During this time, students and families can explore a “seasonal guide” and complete short art activities. The guide booklet, created by L’Alliance New York’s arts and cultural programming department, will provide activities, coloring pages, and kid-friendly information about L’Alliance’s visual and performing arts programs.

Please note: This is a drop-in program, no registration or ticket required. First come, first served.

Weekly Story Hour (ages 3-7) – Drop in on Saturdays for free family-style French story time at the Haskell Library! Held in the main reading room and featuring books carefully curated from the library’s collection, each week will focus on a different fun and inspiring theme.
