Our partners from Garden School Foundation are back as part of the gallery’s 10 Year Party – a celebration of our decade in Downtown Los Angeles. Participate in this hands-on workshop and learn the art of botanical stamp-making using fresh flowers and vegetable scraps. Through guided instruction, educators will introduce participants to stamp making, culminating in a finished card to take home. Inspired by the gallery’s current exhibition ‘Destiny Is a Rose: The Eileen Harris Norton Collection’ roses will serve as the central theme.
This drop-in, all-ages workshop is free to attend while supplies last. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are recommended to help us estimate attendance.
This workshop is part of our 10 Year Party, a daytime, all ages anniversary celebration with free workshops, ice cream, biscuits and live salsa within a former flour mill turned art gallery.
About Garden School Foundation
The Garden School Foundation provides garden-based education to children at eight Title 1 elementary schools across Los Angeles. They take a holistic approach to teaching, gardening, cooking and environmental sustainability through an in-depth Seed to Table and Cafeteria to Compost programs along with regular Community Garden Days and school- based free Farmers Markets.
About ‘Destiny Is a Rose: The Eileen Harris Norton Collection’
Marking fifty years since Eileen Harris Norton’s first acquisition, 'Destiny Is a Rose’ presents more than 80 works that together reflect Harris Norton’s prescient vision and commitment to social justice and learning.
Titled after a painting by Kerry James Marshall, ‘Destiny Is a Rose’ includes work by such artists as Mark Bradford, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, David Hammons, Glenn Ligon Marshall, Lorraine O’Grady, Adrian Piper, Betye Saar, Lorna Simpson, Kara Walker, Carrie Mae Weems and Jack Whitten, among others. In conjunction with ‘Destiny Is a Rose,’ Hauser & Wirth Publishers has released a catalogue featuring text by Dr. Kellie Jones and curator Ingrid Schaffner, celebrating a collector who continues to be an agent of cultural change and growth.
