Add a new skill to your toolbox in this class for wheel throwers! Faceting, common in Japanese tea ware and woodfired pottery, distinguishes your pots from the roundness ubiquitous in thrown pottery, and highlights the natural quality of the clay.
This class is for folks who are comfortable throwing a basic cylinder on the wheel with 2lbs of clay. But, never fear, you don’t need to be a throwing expert to leave with a beautiful cup. In fact, this technique embraces unevenness for a beautifully imperfect result.
Participants will leave with 2-5 faceted tea bowls or tea cups.
Participants will have the option to join us for Open Studio on Wednesday to trim/glaze their work. Shipping and simple glazing by AAC staff is also an option for off-island students.
Schedule: June 11th, 6-9pm.
This class is held in the ceramics studio in the main art building on the origiginal AAC campus at 1255 Wold Rd. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.
This class is taught by visiting artist-in-residence Maya Koneval. Maya joins us for the month of May and is a ceramic artist based in San Francisco. You can learn more about her here!
Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.

If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.
