About this Event
Learn about the magic of creating color with plants with artist Katey Rissi in this introduction to natural dye workshop. This class will lay a solid foundation down to help you understand the fundamentals of how natural dyeing works, so you can continue a dye practice yourself. We will discuss the history of plant color, what fabrics to use, how to prepare fabric for dyeing, and of course, which plants to work with. Students will leave the class with a dye swatch book and a bundle dyed bandana.
We'll use dyes made with local plants grown on SJI and at our farm in this class, which is part of our Art + Agriculture Series. Art + Agriculture classes explore the connections between art, agriculture, and ecology and the ways that these connections build a sense of place. Check out more from this series here.
This class is held at the Art Barn at the new Alchemy Art Farm at 45 Hawthorne Lane. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email.
Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.
