About this Event
Fab Lab Summer Camp: Maker Playground
at Lake Michigan College
Get ready for four action-packed days of making, designing, and experimenting in the Fab Lab! This open-style summer camp gives young creators the freedom to explore a wide range of tools, technologies, and materials while working on projects that match their interests and imagination.
Each day, campers can choose from a variety of hands-on projects designed to introduce and build skills on Fab Lab equipment. From digital design to physical fabrication, participants will rotate through stations and projects—learning by doing and creating at their own pace with guidance from Fab Lab instructors.
Campers will gain experience using:
- Mini lathes and woodworking tools
- 3D printers and 3D modeling software
- Laser cutters and engravers
- Vinyl cutters and heat presses
- Sewing machines and CNC embroidery equipment
Sample Projects May Include:
- Laser-cut fabric pieces to sew custom plushies
- Personalized keychains, pet tags, and collars
- Engraved leather journals or bookmarks
- Stickers, magnets, and custom apparel
- Embroidered shirts, pillows, or accessories
- Wood-turned pens, clocks, and other turned projects
- Custom-designed and 3D-printed creations
- Digital designs created in Adobe Illustrator
Each participant will have 12 total hours of open creation time, allowing them to complete as many projects as they choose while developing real-world skills in design, technology, and problem-solving.

Perfect for curious minds, hands-on learners, and young makers who want to explore everything a Fab Lab has to offer—this camp is all about creativity, choice, and bringing ideas to life
Our camps are designed for the participants to learn to come up with problem solving techniques and "make things". Sometimes, this involves failing, returning to the original concept and trying again. We want to create an environment of trying, re-thinking the process, and trying again to make the design better. We believe this approach encourages creative thinking and determination in addition to exposing them to new technologies.
Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials. Registration is limited. Projects are subject to change based on material availability. Once registered, you'll receive an email asking for the participant(s) name, age, and gender for our instructor's roster. If you have questions, please email them to [email protected].
By purchasing a ticket, you consent to following all the rules related to the Fab Lab and any others to maintain safety for all participants within the lab.
The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning. Participating in Fab Lab activities allow students to explore and experiment with digital fabrication technology including 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, and Vinyl Cutters.
