About this Event
Hosted by The Biophilia Institute
This special session explores both the origins and evolving future of biophilic design. The first portion highlights foundational research from early pioneers Gail Brager and Kathleen Wolf, whose work helped shape our understanding of how nature influences human health, comfort, and wellbeing in the built environment.
Bill Browning will also lead a group exercise to allow all the summit participants to share current research and highlight questions related to biophilic design projects.
The conversation then turns toward the future, examining the emerging intersection of real and simulated nature. Peter Kahn will explore how humans respond to digital and mediated experiences of nature, while Richard Taylor will share research on the psychological and physiological effects of nature-based fractal patterns.
Together, these perspectives trace the roots of biophilia while pointing toward new possibilities for how nature—both physical and virtual—can shape the spaces we design.
