About this Event
The Irish got the worst deal in early industrial Manchester: slum houses, abuse, discrimination and harassment, but the old Irish ghetto of Little Ireland, with its imposing mills and smoking chimneys, later attracted some of the greatest stories and characters, such as Robert Owen, Friedrich Engels and George Orwell, who had plenty to say, as did Gandhi about the iniquities of the cotton trade.
