Explore Assyrtiko: Santorini and beyond, by Pale Ruby Wine
Date: 21 May 2026
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Location: Alba X Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street, London E1 7QX
Join Pale Ruby Wine for a deep-dive tasting exploring Assyrtiko, one of the most distinctive white grape varieties in the world. We’ll begin in its birthplace, Santorini, where Assyrtiko thrives against extreme conditions of volcanic soils, fierce winds and minimal rainfall, producing wines of striking salinity, structure and longevity. From there, we’ll expand beyond the island to see how the grape adapts and evolves across mainland Greece and further afield in regions as diverse as Turkey and Australia.
The tasting will showcase Assyrtiko’s remarkable versatility through a range of styles, from traditional Nykteri wines of Santorini to orange and sweet expressions. By tasting Assyrtiko across different terroirs and winemaking approaches, we will discover how place, climate and technique shape the character of this resilient grape, offering a comprehensive and engaging exploration of Assyrtiko’s past, present and global future.
The wines will be accompanied by a small selection of cheeses from Maltby & Greek to complement the tasting experience.
What to expect:
- A guided tasting of 8 wines
- A diverse mix of styles, from traditional to boundary-pushing
- Cheese pairing from Maltby & Greek
- A relaxed atmosphere for wine lovers to connect
Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot and explore Assyrtiko in all its glory.
