The combustible kaleidoscopic magic of the Exploding Rainbow Songbook is back for 2025 with Volume Four; a holistic happening across three very special nights in November. Your favourite thirty-five piece psychedelic ensemble the Exploding Rainbow Orchestra will once again burst forth with a cast of a dozen of Aotearoa’s finest songwriters, returning to the Whakamana Cannabis Museum’s majestic building formerly known as Hopetoun Alpha.
We’re pleased as punch at the aural smorgasbord of guest artists we’ve conjured up this year. Performing a song each with the orchestra are (in alphabetical order): supreme R&B virtuoso Bailey Wiley, sophisticated soulful songstress Crystal Chen, Aotearoa’s trailblazing rap provocateur Dam Native, dream-weaving pure-voiced HINA, high-energy hip-hop boss JessB, badass drumming-singing-songwriting Dateline rockster Katie Everingham, party pop wonder Ladyhawke, LEAO’s Pacific neo-psychedelia innovator David Feauai-Afaese, genre-bending glitchy art-pop multi-instrumentalist LEIGH, the cathartic and sacred sound of Reb Fountain, off-kilter jangle-fuzz guitar popster Reuben Scott of Salt Water Criminals, and the melancholic maestro-of-parliament Steve Abel.
Helmed by maximalist musical mastermind and cosmic conductor Joshua Worthington-Church, the all-star Exploding Rainbow Orchestra this year features members of Tiny Ruins, Avantdale Bowling Club, Skilaa, Princess Chelsea & The Dream Warriors, Hans Pucket, Fazerdaze, Sulfate, and The Circling Sun.
While the performer line-up is the same each night, you’ll want to return night after night as each one of these extraordinary shows will have its own unique sorcery and surprises. Expect full-on fantasias of song, lavish light show and visuals to match, and the best, funnest, most mind blowingest, partyingest, ridiculously raucously trippyest time ever!
