5.12.25 - 20.12.25Zine launch and exhibition opening: 5.12.25, 6pm
John Convery is a Birmingham-based photographer and cat lover. His live music photography captures the raw emotion and energy of the performance with his work focusing on the connection between performers and their audiences; freezing powerful moments that tell the story of each show. John's images allow people to relive and promote their performances. His landscape and documentary photography is no different, bringing this wider idea of connection and powerful moments out into the world outside of the gig space and allowing the viewer to experience what he is capturing. @john_convery_
Julie R. Kane is a Birmingham-based photographer, zine maker, obsessive knitter and doctoral researcher exploring the intersection between zines and youth mental health. Her zine work includes Colorless Green Ideas (2009 – 2012), Indestructible Energy: handmade art zine (2012 - current) and various one-off zines as part of her PhD practice. Her photographic work mostly revolves around music, including both portrait and live work, capturing various sounds in a way that viewers can feel the music in the photo. Her passion is in making connections between people and seeing people and projects thrive because of it. This is the main focus of her photography, zine and doctoral work. @fstopqueen
Noise & Detail is a collaborative zine showcasing various pieces of work by the two photographers. Though the first issue focuses on music photography centred around Centrala, it is likely that this project will develop to showcase other pieces of work by these photographers. The first issue of this project will be available to purchase on the evening and a selection of the works will be exhibited in downstairs gallery.
The launch also includes a drop in Zine Club which will give attendees the chance to read through some established zines and try their hand at making one of their own using materials provided.
