About this Event

Join us for an exclusive screening of The Homecoming, a powerful new documentary from BBC Africa Eye that delves into the thought-provoking phenomenon of "reverse migration" — a journey from Europe back to Africa. Set against a backdrop of rising nationalism, social tensions, and police violence in France, this film follows young French people of African descent as they make their way to Senegal in search of a new start, echoing a journey that is, in many ways, the opposite of their parents.

This documentary illuminates the challenges and triumphs they encounter in building a life in Africa while exploring profound themes of belonging, identity, and the evolving ties between Africa and its diaspora.

This special event, held in partnership with BBC World Service’s award-winning investigative unit BBC Africa Eye, will also feature a post-screening panel discussion. Engage with the documentary’s producer & reporter, Nour Abida, along with film producers and influential representatives of the African diaspora. Together, they will dive deeper into the themes presented in the film, exploring what it means to bridge worlds, seek belonging, and redefine identity across continents.

KHADIM MBAMBA - Founder & Chef, Little Baobab Restauarnt

Khadim Mbamba, founder and head chef of Little Baobab, has brought the vibrant flavours and culture of Senegal to London since 2015. Raised in Dakar, Senegal, Khadim grew up in a culture where men traditionally didn’t take on cooking roles. However, his love for Senegalese cuisine was ignited when he moved to the UK in 2010 and found himself missing the familiar tastes of home. He began cooking traditional dishes for friends, which quickly led to hosting pop-up events that combined Senegalese food with live music, drawing a passionate following. Today, Little Baobab operates from both the Africa Centre and Peckham Levels, offering Londoners an authentic taste of Senegal in a vibrant, welcoming setting.

At the event, Khadim will join the panel to share his journey as a Senegalese chef in the UK, discussing his experiences, challenges, and successes in introducing Senegalese cuisine to new audiences. Little Baobab will also be serving some of their dishes on the night, providing guests with an immersive experience in West African culture
