🍋 As the fruit bowl of Aotearoa, we in Hawke's Bay are lucky to have trees dripping with citrus, feijoas, quinces and tomatoes — but let’s be honest, there is only so much fresh fruit you can eat! Instead of letting that goodness hit the grass or the kerb, why not bottle it? It is the best way to lock in that peak-season flavour and keep the "yum" going all year round.Sustainable HB is excited to bring Every Bite 2026, a four-week programme designed to help you become more food resourceful and reduce food waste across Aotearoa. By joining, you will gain the tools, resources and most importantly — the motivation to track and reduce your food waste. You will get plenty of practical tips, smart hacks, and tasty recipes to help you make the most of your kai. It’s simple, rewarding and will make a real difference to both your household waste and your grocery bill!
What to Expect:
📆 Kick-off Event | 5 May 2026 | Keirunga Homestead | $10 for one / $15 for 'bring a friend'
We’re kicking off Every Bite with the wonderful Nikki from The Goodness Garden. Nikki is a true artisan who has spent a lifetime mastering the craft of handmade preserves —using the same classic, small-batch techniques your granny would have used. She’s joining us to share that timeless wisdom so you can turn your backyard surplus into pantry gold. At this special event, you will:
⚪ Enjoy gourmet light meals made with fresh, largely organic produce, grown on-site.
⚪ Learn about Every Bite’s mission to reduce food waste and appreciate food more.
⚪ Hear from Nikki as she shares preserving 101 on preserving techniques, the equipment required and methods including recipe ideas and tips and tricks. She will talk about ingredient selection, cooking techniques, the sterilization process, storage and how to easily achieve safe, long-term preservation of your surplus fruit and vegetables.
