This weekend of Bhakti practices encourages us to slow down and listen to our hearts, experiencing anahata ~ the heart ~ through sound immersion, yoga, akhand kirtan chanting (sacred song chanting), while connecting within a truly uplifting community. Bhakti Weekend unfolds through the following sessions:
Friday 15th May 6.30-8.30pm
Arrival into Voice & Sound with Yee Ley Lau
Collective vocal mandala & sound immersion
Gather for a gentle arrival into sound
Through breath, listening, and simple vocal toning, we begin to soften the mind and attune to the shared field of presence.
As our voices meet and merge, we will co-create sound mandalas, allowing tone, vibration, and intention to weave together in the space.
This experience gently invites us to remember the voice as a natural instrument of connection, expression, and prayer.
As the evening deepens, you will be invited to lie down and receive a nourishing sound immersion, allowing the body and mind to settle, integrate, and open to the devotional current of the weekend ahead.
No experience required.
Saturday 16th May 9-11am
Yoga with Atma Okan
This two-hour practice is an opportunity to gently prepare body, breath, and mind for an afternoon of kirtan, singing, chanting, expression, and heart-opening connection.
Through a balanced exploration of asana, pranayama, meditation, and sound, we will move between stillness and expression.
Saturday 16th May 1.30-7.30pm (followed by kai)
Akhanda Kirtan - the flow of unbroken bhav
This is a special akhanda kirtan gathering with the Hawke's Bay Kirtan collective and kirtan leaders travelling in from around the country.
Akhanda means continuous or unbroken mantra. It is a deep connecting, nourishing and energizing practice.
We will be carried by the sound of mantra being repeated, supported within vibrant community, and invited into a state of presence that is both deeply personal and universally shared. You don't need to be a singer, or experienced in kirtan to participate - just bring your curiosity and an open mind.
Come as you are, and share in the experience, an invitation to delve into the Heart and let it express through sound.
Sunday 17th May 9-11am
Community Kirtan practice
An organic opportunity for those who are inspired to offer a kirtan or two. Simply put your name on the board over the weekend, and enjoy being supported by other musicians present.
A ticket to the entire Bhakti Weekend is $90
For a complete experience, we would love you to come to the whole, unfolding program, but you can also choose sessions that fit your wants and weekend best.
