About this Event

with Amit Gud & Skanda Krishnan on Sarod and Tabla

Presented ONLY at 2929 24th Street, not online!

Celebrate an evening of rich melody and vibrant rhythm with a live Indian classical music performance featuring Amit Gud on Sarod, accompanied by Skanda Krishnan on Tabla. The Sarod, a fretless string instrument known for its deep, resonant voice, blends beautifully with the intricate rhythmic patterns of the Tabla, a pair of hand-played drums that form the rhythmic foundation of North Indian classical music.
Through the unfolding of traditional ragas, the musicians guide the audience on a musical journey that moves from quiet introspection to energetic rhythmic interplay. Improvisation lies at the heart of this tradition, allowing each performance to become a unique and spontaneous exploration of mood, melody, and time.
Whether you are deeply familiar with Indian classical music or hearing it for the first time, this intimate concert invites you to slow down, listen closely, and experience the timeless beauty of this centuries-old art form.
Amit Gud - Sarod
Amit got initiated to Indian classical music at an early age. He learned Tabla from various gurus in Pune and most recently with Arshad Syed ji (disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha) in California. Amit also studied nylon string guitar from Stanford professor Charles Fergusson.
In 2014, Amit embarked on a new musical journey by studying the Sarod under the tutelage of two great masters - Shri Bruce Hamm, a disciple of the revered Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and Shri Abhisek Lahiri, a disciple of the renowned Shri Alok Lahiri. The Sarod's unique tone and versatility captivated Amit, and he has been passionately exploring the instrument's intricacies ever since.
Amit's performances are characterized by his masterful command of rhythm, his deep emotional connection to the music, and his ability to evoke the essence of traditional ragas. He has been showcasing his talent at various venues around the bay area, leaving his audience captivated and mesmerized by his musical prowess.

Over the past 15 years, Skanda has grown into an avid performer of the percussion instrument with solos and group ensembles and accompaniment to his credit. Skanda is now under the rigorous training and tutelage of Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri at the Ali Akbar College of Music.
