About the Festival
Celebrate the richness of European cinema at Ode to Joy: European CineFest San Francisco, featuring a curated selection of films from across the continent. From captivating dramas and imaginative animations to thought-provoking documentaries, the festival highlights the unique voices and stories that define Europe’s cultural landscape. Each film offers audiences a chance to explore new perspectives, experience different cultures, and be inspired by compelling storytelling. The festival is organized by the EU Office in San Francisco in conjunction with the EU Consulates and European Cultural Centers. Screenings take place at three distinctive San Francisco venues: INNOVIT, Alliance Française, and the Delancey Street Screening Room, welcoming both seasoned cinephiles and newcomers to European film.
Featured Film – TOVE (Finland)
Set in postwar Helsinki, TOVE follows the creative and romantic life of beloved artist Tove Jansson, the creator of the Moomins. As she searches for artistic freedom and personal fulfillment, Tove grapples with love, identity, and her place in a rapidly changing world. Vibrant and heartfelt, the film captures the spirit of an artist determined to live and love on her own terms. Recommended for ages 12+.
