About this Event
Equally Yoked Christian Speed Dating and Singles Events seeks to create spaces for practicing Christians who are single in southeast Michigan to meet and connect in-person as well as foster relationships in accordance with 2 Corinthians 6:14.
It's the meet-cute of your dreams: a cozy bookstore, a discussion on classic literature, and all with professing believers. Join us for a book club-style conversation on Saturday, May 2 at 4:15 p.m. at the Road Less Travel Books store on "Animal Farm," the 1945 allegorical novella by George Orwell, the author of "1984," that tackles themes around the corruption of power, equality, and justice.
There is no direct cost to participate beyond accessing “Animal Farm” to read in preparation for the event, but we ask attendees to bring a new or gently used children’s book to be donated to the Foster Closet of Michigan. We encourage making your donation through a purchase at Road Less Traveled Books for being our gracious host!
Angel Studios, the media company behind faith-based hit films like "David" (2025) and "Sound of Freedom" (2023), brings to theaters starting May 1 an animated fantasy comedy film adaptation of "Animal Farm" with some modern twists. Directed by Andy Serkis ("Venom: Let There Be Carnage"), the movie features the voices of Seth Rogen ("Superbad"), Gaten Matarazzo ("Stranger Things"), and others.
We will meet at the bookstore with time for chatting and browsing, as well. Afterward, we invite participants to a 7 p.m. showing of the newly released film at a nearby cinema. We will share specifics on the location for that after you have registered. You will be responsible for the acquisition and cost of your ticket. Expect the cost to be under $12. Attending the movie is not required for participation in the book club portion.
Participation in this fellowship event is not limited to a specific age range. You are not required to be a member of a particular church or denomination, though we ask attendees are a part of a church to be plugged into a faith community. We have room for up to 20 people and will engage in large and small group discussion.
Please note “Animal Farm” does deal with topics related to totalitarianism, equality, justice, abuse, and communist principles as it is an allegory of the Russian Revolution, though such themes remain relevant today. Participants should be able to have a calm and respectful discourse on how Orwell addresses these matters even amid disagreement, or you will be required to leave. The goal of this conversation is not to debate politics, but to look at the book through a literary lens and its continued relevancy today.
Road Less Traveled Books is located in downtown Farmington. There are a few parking spaces outside the store and a parking lot across the street, but it can get pretty full at busier times of the day. Please plan ahead to locate parking and arrive to the bookstore on time.
This event will NOT include speed dating, but we invite you to Christian speed dating on Saturday, April 18 in Livonia: https://equallyyokedchristianspeeddatinglivonia.eventbrite.com

About Foster Closet of Michigan
Foster Closet of Michigan provides clothing, books, toys, and other personal items to children placed in the foster care system in Michigan. Children often enter foster care with little. The nonprofit provides the children with clothing and items to help them begin the process of rebuilding and having something they can call their own. Foster children may use the closet as often as there is a need. Donations from the Equally Yoked event will go to the western Wayne location at Alpha Baptist Church in Livonia.
