Join us on January 7 at Songbyrd and in partnership with This Could Go Boom where music and activism will collide in support of equality and the Equal Rights Amendment.
With Boy Meets Pearl, Grief Cat, La Marvela, Ammonite and Quattracenta this shows promises to bring the house down while inviting you to take action for gender equality
The Equal Rights Amendment, passed by Congress in 1972, reached the 38 states needed for ratification in 2020 and has been ready for publication as the 28th Amendment ever since. The ERA will safeguard against gender-based violence, protect reproductive rights, ensure equal pay, and end discrimination based on gender. Without it, these injustices remain far harder to address.
Why Now?
The stakes couldn’t be higher. With Donald Trump re-elected as President, progress toward equal rights is at risk. His previous administration stripped away key protections for women and blocked the ERA from publication. The ERA has already met all the legal requirements for ratification, and with your help, we can ensure it’s finally published.
Take Action Today:
1. Call the White House at (202) 456-1111.
2. Text (302) 404-0880.
3. Email President Biden and let him know the time to act is NOW.
4. Spread the word—ask your friends and community to do the same!

Boy Meets Pearl
@boymeetspearl
Queer-fronted & oddly orchestrated, BMP offer new takes on sea shanties, circus waltzes & music hall sing-a-longs. Fronted by the spectacularly charismatic Christian Crowley and Sea Griffin, Boy Meets Pearl explores those sensual tales and oft-bawdy songs with instrumentation that careens from Glockenspiel to Chapman Stick, visiting autoharp and accordion and any number of idiosyncratic devices along the way.

Griefcat
@griefcatpartytime
What does a Mormon ex-sheriff and an Atheist tech employee have in common? No, that’s not the beginning of an elaborate joke and Griefcat isn’t the punchline. Instead, Annie Nardolilli and Louisa Hall, the masterminds behind Griefcat, are a duo that you can’t easily categorize or file into a neat little genre. They are mutually perpetuating forces in matching outfits who together create beautifully blended harmonies and brilliant lyrics, with an unpredictable twist. They’ve been compared to Flight of the Conchords, Tenacious D, Norwegian duo Ylvis, and Garfunkel and Oates by fans, but if you ask Annie to describe their sound, she’ll say “We’re like if Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, and Bo Burnham met up at an Olive Garden and wrote a song while eating unlimited breadsticks. Does that make sense? Probably not.”
La Marvela
@lamarvelamusic
La Marvela is an all-women music band that plays and highlights the richness of rhythms from the Colombian Caribbean region rooted in African, Indigenous and European influences. The group was formed to provide a learning space and honor Colombian ancestral music from a female perspective.
Our members are defenders of domestic violence survivors, and strive to provide a safe, inclusive and judgement free space.
Ammonite
@ammoniteband
Characterized by surprising harmonies, sharp songwriting, and fierce genre-bending. Ammonite debuted on The National Museum of Women in the Arts “The Tea” program in late 2022 and launched themselves into a busy inaugural year that included The Fort Reno concert series, features of their demo recording on Bandcamp and Country Queer, charting in the top 40 for the year on AltQ radio, headlining Frederick Pride, and playing Rockville Pride.
The power trio melds an edgy 90’s/00s grit with the jangle and twang of classic country revival and queer confessional songwriting that pours out onstage as an authentic and dynamic live show. In the past year Ammonite toured the East Coast and Midwest, played the Cherry Blossom Festival, MidMountain Murder Ballad festival and contributed a track to Yesterday and Today: D.C. does Dischord, alongside Ted Leo, The Dismemberment Plan, Outerloop, and J Robbins.
Quattracenta
@quattracenta
Quattracenta is a three-piece, no-wave, art rock band from Baltimore, MD. They formed in 2016, after guitarist/vocalist Sarah Matas moved from Chicago to Baltimore and began to connect with other experienced local players, including bassist Christian Sturgis (The Uniform, Lo Moda) and drummer Andrea Shearer (Saddle of Centaur, Pariah Piranha). In the ensuing years, Quattracenta has toured the mid-Atlantic region and become a staple of the live music scene in Baltimore, performing venues like Ottobar and the Baltimore Soundstage.
Drawing on elements of post-punk, no wave, dub, and psychedelia, Quattracenta’s moody, genre-expansive music echoes influences like Slint, Earth, PJ Harvey, and The Birthday Party, anchored by Matas’ yearning guitar and lyrical meditations on mortality, and framed by Sturgis’ distorted, writhing bass lines and Shearer’s spacious, minimalist drumming. Together, Quattracenta establishes a riveting and dramatic atmosphere on every stage they occupy.
Their most recent record “II” was produced by J Robbins (Jawbox, Government Issue)
and was released by Bob Nastanovich’s (Pavement, Silver Jews) Brokers Tip label, with distribution via Dischord Records.
