You are invited to attend the Engineering & Public Works Open House on Saturday, May 16, 2026!The Engineering & Public Works Open House will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Engineering and Public Works Facility, 714 S. Plum Grove Rd. The event is free and open to all ages. Additional parking is available on Merlin and Redlinger roads.
Participants will be offered a unique experience that allows residents and children to get a behind-the-scenes look at what skills, tools and equipment are required to maintain the village’s infrastructure. The event will include touch-a-truck, equipment displays, informational booths, demonstrations, free giveaways, snacks and more.
Winners of the K-6 Student Drawing Contest depicting “What Public Works Means to You” will also be celebrated at the event.
Recognizing the urgent needs of animals at local rescue organizations, the village is proud to collect items and monetary donations at the Public Works Open House to benefit the Almost Home Foundation and Chicagoland Dog Rescue. The public may bring new, unopened items for donation at the event, such as:
• Leashes and collars (all sizes)
• Large pee pads
• Unopened Purina One Plus Wet Puppy Food (Classic Ground Healthy Puppy Lamb – canned and dry)
• Kong Goodie Bones
• Catnip toys and feather cat toys
• Blankets, sheets, pillows and large comforters
• Pet gates
• Gift cards to Petco, PetSmart, or Chewy
Items can also be ordered through the Amazon wish list to be delivered to the Engineering and Public Works facility. Early donation drop-offs are welcome now through Friday, May 15 at the Public Works facility, 714 S. Plum Grove Rd.
