Workshop Schedule:
Week 1 – Foundations of Encaustic Painting (Oct 29)
- Introduction to encaustic painting: history, tools, and safety
- Preparing surfaces and working with encaustic medium
- Hands-on practice: 1–2 test panels to explore layering and fusing
Week 2 – Texture & Mixed Media (Nov 5)
- Techniques for carving, scraping, and stenciling
- Embedding materials like paper, thread, and botanicals
- Hands-on project: 1 larger panel + 1 mixed-media experiment
Week 3 – Color & Image Transfers (Nov 12)
- Working with pigments, oil sticks, and incising techniques
- Introduction to image transfers (photocopies, drawings)
- Hands-on project: color layering and transfer techniques
Week 4 – Personal Project & Group Critique (Nov 19)
- Advanced fusing and finishing techniques
- Hands-on: complete a personal encaustic piece
- Group sharing and constructive critique
